Solar Hot Water (Solar Thermal) PDF Print E-mail

We offer two types of solar hot water systems; Evacuated Tube Collectors and Flat Plate Collectors.

Generally speaking the Evacuated tube systems are more efficient and require smaller space than the Flat Plate systems. For similar performance systems, the flat plate systems are slightly cheaper. Due to better efficiency, the evacuated tube systems perform better in winter months.

How Solar Hot Water Systems Work?

Solar energy is absorbed by the solar collectors thereby heating a fluid in the solar loop. This hot fluid is then pumped through a heat exchanger within a twin coil cylinder giving its heat to the water. The cycle continues as long as solar energy is available.

An electronic controller monitors the system and ensures that the pump does not operate when there is no useful solar energy and also it protects the hot water tank from over heating.

Efficient solar hot water systems can provide up to 70% of the domestic hot water need of a family or an office. A secondary back up system is used for occasional top ups as necessary.
