Tomorrows Energy

Low/Zero Carbon Homes

Our approach to achieving this target is by providing the most cost/performance effective solution for each element within the building.

  • Foundation:
Our insulated foundation system not only provides very good U-values from 0.15 to 0.2 w/m2.k, but also reduces the amount of ground work and earth removal and disposition. Typically small amount of concrete is placed on top of 150mm hard core within our prefabricated EPS pieces providing a raft foundation which is very quick to build with extremely good insulation. See the foundation section for more details.

  • Walls
Our walls are made from 9.5mm plywood, 145mm of insulation, 0.2mm plastic film and 9.3mm masonite board; giving a U-value of 0.29 w/m2.k. Additional insulation can be applied inside the building between the wall panel and dry plaster or wood, etc improving the U-value further (2X45mm insulation results in U-value of less than 0.16).

  • Windows
Our windows are of highest quality and are preinstalled in each panel in the factory making them extremely air tight. All windows are triple glazed and argon filled. All open able windows rotate 180 degrees. Windows have a U-value of 1.2 w/m2.k

  • Ceiling, floor and Roof
The floor system can be insulated on site easily but is supplied with a 0.2mm thick plastic film, which in turn ties to the wall panels to form a very airtight envelope. This also applies to the ceiling.

The roof is supplied with tongue and grooved boards (similar to sarkin boards used in Scotland) for further air and water tightness.
